The village of Lhalung, which means 'Land of the Gods', is surrounded on one side by the Lingti River and on the other by the Tangmar mountain range. Lhalung is home to the Lhalung Monastery, which dates back to the 10th century. Despite the harsh climate, the monastery has withstood the test of time. The residents idolize the monastery, which they think was built of willow trees by angels who guard the village.
