Nestled in the Zanskar Mountains, Likir Monastery is one of the largest and most important of Ladakh's many monasteries. This monastery was built during the 17th century and its whitewashed walls beautifully reflect the light. The monastery is known for its collection of ancient and rare manuscripts, including Buddhist literature, thangkas (scroll paintings), and thangka fragments.
