This remote valley in northwestern India, about 180 km (110 mi) north of Leh, is famous for its blue lakes, snowcapped peaks and colored sand dunes. Set between the Himalayas and the Karakoram Range, the Markha Valley is flanked by the Kunlun and Drang valleys, and has several lakes, such as Thikse, Markha and Tsaga. The main attractions are the monasteries of the Drukpa Order and the vast fields of barley and potatoes.
