Wanla Monastery, an ancient Buddhist monastery, is located in the Wanla village. Around 1000 AD is when the monastery is believed to have been built. Lama Rinchen Zangpo, a saint of the time, translated Lord Buddha's teachings into Tibetan, prompting him to lead the believers and build this monastery. The monastery is one of 108 monasteries constructed with the assistance of the King of Ladakh between 958 and 1055 AD. The three-story depiction of the 11-headed Mahakaruna (Avalokiteshwara) is the monastery's main attraction (Avalokiteshwara).
