The Raisen fort, built around 1200 AD, stands high on a sandstone spur of the Vindhya range. This huge stronghold has seen various kings take over and rule the region. The fort, built of sandstone, is a testament to the outstanding ancient architecture and craftsmanship that has stood the test of time. Within its walls are four palaces (Badal Mahal, Itradaan Mahal, Hawa Mahal and Rohini Mahal), as well as a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Pilgrims who visit the temple tie a piece of cloth on the grill entrance to have their wishes granted.
