The British Residency in Lucknow was established in 1780 as a representative of the British East India Company. It served as a safe refuge for senior British officers during times of unrest and also provided accommodation for important visitors. Decades later, during the Revolt of 1857, the residency was occupied by rebel forces before being rescued by a British force. Refurbishment work after the revolt restored it to its former glory and today it stands proudly as a historical landmark symbolizing an incredible moment in history.
