Varanasi is the oldest living city in the world.  One of the most well-known Hindu pilgrimage sites, it is home to many temples. The Ganges River, which passes through Varanasi, is believed to have power over both life and death. By having their cremated bodies washed ashore, individuals are said to have a way to escape the cycle of death and rebirth.
